Infrastructure Solutions Intern (ABM Technical Solutions)
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Infrastructure Solutions Intern reports to the Regional Director of Project Development and will be responsible for assisting in the development of guaranteed energy efficiency projects, renewable energy projects, and other infrastructure improvement projects, by working with Project Developers, Energy Engineers, and Project Managers in identifying, assessing, calculating, structuring and implementing technical solutions to meet customer objectives. The energy efficiency projects work will be focused on the MUSH (Municipal, University, School, and Hospital) market, will encompass forms of state enabling legislation for energy contracting vehicles, and entail all forms of energy, water, and emission savings technologies. This is an intern position that will require direct supervision and mentoring from leadership.
With supervision, this individual will help identify and quantify energy conservation opportunities associated with mechanical and electrical systems, HVAC, HVAC digital controls, building envelope, renewable energy, and other technologies that save energy and water and reduce GHG emissions.
Responsibilities include assisting in performing site visits, identifying energy conservation opportunities, developing energy savings calculations and Measurement & Verification baselines, plans, and approaches, reviewing subcontractor proposals, populating historical data spreadsheets, assisting with utility data collection/organization, data entry (survey notes, meeting minutes, site survey photos, equipment inventory, existing building drawings, research rebates/incentives, construction documentation/reporting, etc.), developing preliminary analysis, and investment grade audits. Individual will also be responsible for assisting with collection and inventory of audit data.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Project Developers, Energy Engineers, and Project Managers in conducting site trips to collect facility and utility data including equipment nameplate data, photographs, meter data, utility bills, etc.
- Create and maintain project files and folders to inventory and organize project data.
- Assist the Project Developers with coordinating with external vendors, manufacturers, and contractors to develop designs and technical proposals for solutions and services.
- Support the Energy Engineers in measurement and verification methodology and development, utility billing analysis, and detailed supporting documentation of simulation results, and savings derivations.
- Support the Energy Engineers in the analyses and generation of applications for utility rebates associated with energy efficiency projects.
- Assist the Project Developer to draft, review, and evaluate contract documents, drawings, and schedules.
- Assist the Project Developers to perform comparison studies on suppliers’ quotations.
- Assist the Project Managers in executing contracts with subcontractors and procuring equipment from vendors.
- Assist the Project Managers in scheduling and coordinating implementation by subcontractors.
EDUCATION:
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering (BE, BS) or construction related degree program required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be able to conduct field visits to assist with site walkthrough energy assessments and collect detailed information.
- Possess highly developed interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills (oral & written).
- Possess strong organizational and computer skills, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Possess strong attention to detail.
