DESCRIPTION:
As an intern for the Sales Operation department, you will have the opportunity to assists with public transit operations at events with high ridership. We do this by providing our riders with an efficient process to purchase their fares and safely board transit. As an intern for the Stadium Events Program, you will have the opportunity to support Metro Transit by working with a team of interns and ambassadors at the different venues we support. We support the Twins at Target Field, Vikings & Concerts at US Bank Stadium, Minnesota United FC at Allianz Field, and Golden Gophers Football at Huntington Bank Stadium.
In addition to supporting the Stadium Events Program, interns will have the opportunity to support Metro Transit’s Revenue Operations department with projects and initiatives. Revenue Operations is the department our program is a part of and is responsible for overseeing the processes and technology that our riders use to purchase their fares for public transit.
Our goal as an intern program is to provide our team with the opportunity to develop skills that will help them succeed in a professional work environment. This is a good role for freshmen, sophomores, and any students looking for their first internship experience! This is also a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience working in a public service environment!

What does a 2025 Internship with the Metropolitan Council entail?
As a 2025 Intern with the Metropolitan Council you will benefit from on-the-job training and mentoring along with participation in team projects, social events and professional development. Interns will receive the opportunity to build professional relationships and enhance their interpersonal skills. Interns will also interact with their coworkers and participate in projects that directly impact business value.
Who is the Metropolitan Council?
The Metropolitan Council is made up of several operating divisions that service the Twin Cities Metropolitan area in a number of ways.
- Metro Transit provides bus and light rail public transportation for the greater metropolitan area
- Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) manages wastewater treatment plants and the regional wastewater collection system for the seven county metropolitan region
- Community Development is responsible for helping the Council shape its regional growth plan and Metro HRA provides affordable housing programs in the region
- Metropolitan Transportation Services (MTS) is responsible for the transportation planning functions as the Twin Cities metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for transportation
- Regional Administration provides support services (Finance, Payroll, HR, etc.) for the Council
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Assist with organizing personnel and resources for safe and efficient crowd management operations for light rail transit after events at stadium venues.
- Assist Metro Transit riders at light rail stations near park & ride locations and stadium venues with purchasing fares, navigating the transit system, and general wayfinding.
- Provide support on projects and initiatives that involve preparing reports, documentation, performing surveys, data entry, planning, outreach, and marketing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled in a degree seeking program (Associate's, Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD) OR be a recent graduate (within 12 months from posting date) from a degree program.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Candidate's residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin during the internship.
- An UNOFFICIAL/OFFICIAL transcript is required to be attached to application.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Self-initiation when approaching work.
