2025 Product Development, Science & Technology (PDS&T) Graduate Intern

Product Development, Science and Technology (PDS&T) Intern Overview

Product Development, Science and Technology (PDS&T) is the intersection of technical excellence and business impact.  We are champions of product innovation and process knowledge to solve AbbVie's most complex technical challenges to successfully support late-phase products, commercialize our pipeline, ensure the quality and efficacy of our products, and make a direct impact on patient health and well-being. 

 

During a summer in PDS&T, the intern would own a focused technical project to support analytical method development, address manufacturing and process challenges, and facilitate new technologies development.  The intern would be placed in one of the following PDS&T groups: Analytical Sciences, Combination Aesthetics Devices, Parenteral and Eye Care, API, Pharmaceuticals Technology, or Drug Product Owner.

  • Analytical method development
  • Medical device continuous improvements
  • Technical investigations
  • Identify yield and robustness improvements
  • Formulation & process optimizations for pipeline & commercial products
  • Introduction of innovative technologies

 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Demonstrating scientific initiative and creativity in research and development activities.
  • Leveraging strong scientific background to design studies for characterization and optimization of formulation and surface properties, process controls, and container systems.
  • Developing and executing laboratory work, drawing conclusions and deviations.
  • Summarizing and presenting results with clear conclusions and recommendations for future steps.
  • Performing routine and complex tasks competently and independently, ensuring the generation of reliable and consistent results.
  • Maintaining compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Understanding and adhering to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials and GxP compliance, where applicable

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Material Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or other related field of study.
  • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
  • Expected graduation date between December 2025 – August 2026.

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Previous research/lab experience and experience with wet lab, analytical chemistry, synthetic chemistry, process chemistry, modeling, and data analysis software.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills required. Ability to communicate concepts and problems in terms that are understandable to all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
