Summer News Internship
The WOUB News Summer Internship provides student with an immersive practical experience producing daily content for a professional multi-platform news operation.
Summer interns will be:
- Producing, reporting, and anchoring for NewsWatch – the weeknight newscast on WOUB-TV.
- Writing and reporting stories for WOUB AM/FM and woub.org.
- Supervised by WOUB Public Media’s professional news, and technical staff.
Qualifications
Successful interns are self-motivated and dedicated to telling the stories of others.
These critical thinkers can function as part of a team or work independently.
Must meet the following requirements:
- In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an accredited institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress. We will consider recent graduates one semester beyond degree.
- Must be 18 years of age or older with current class standing of sophomore or above.
- Have a valid U.S. driver’s license and insurance.
- Familiarity with audio and video recording equipment and editing software systems.
Available positions
- Reporter - Plan, edit and produce stories as assigned for WOUB’s TV, radio and web audience. Anchoring opportunities for WOUB’s daily television newscast and weekly news magazine podcast as desired. Provides production support during the NewsWatch as needed.
- Weather Forecaster - Analyze data to prepare and issue forecast products, advisories, and warnings for WOUB’s weather desk on social media and broadcast platforms. Deliver forecast to WOUB’s audience using industry standard equipment during daily live television newscast. Plan, edit and produce multi-platform content explaining the region’s weather. Broadcast meteorology or meteorology major required.
- Producer -Develop the rundown for WOUB’s daily television newscast by curating stories from various sources and content partners. Write stories and build graphics for the newscast. Work with director and talent to execute the live newscast. Work with editors and reporters to push in house content to social media.
- Segment producer - Works independently or in collaboration with producers and reporters to formulate live-interview segment ideas for the newscast. Books guests for either in-studio or virtual interviews. Manages the guests when they arrive for an in-studio interview segment.
- Audio producer/reporter - Manages production of The OUtlet podcast. Coordinates with reporters working on podcast versions of their stories. Produces audio stories for FM radio and OUtlet podcast. Responsible for scripting the show open, story
intros, and show close. Provides production support during NewsWatch as needed.
- Digital producer – Writes articles for WOUB's website and social media accounts. Works closely with professional staff, producers and reporters to transition broadcast content to digital and social media platforms. Posses basic knowledge of digital and social media best practices.
