IT Investment Line of Business Intern (Data and Analytics)

Internship: This position is a paid, full-time, limited term assignment that offers interns the opportunity to gain substantive hands on experience. Interns enjoy the opportunity to get training and mentoring from experienced professionals in one or more areas. Interns may also be eligible to continue working part-time through the fall and spring semesters, depending on department and agency needs.

The IT Investment Line of Business Student Intern performs routine (entry-level) duties such as developing, enhancing, or troubleshooting data processes in Microsoft-focused systems: Azure or on-prem. This position will support agency operations with a primary focus on gaining practical work experience and business skills with hands-on code development, error troubleshooting, release management, documentation, and production support.. The incumbent will partner with investment interns and proactively work with data engineers, IT staff, and other agency employees.

This position will start on June 4th and will end on August 8th of 2025.
Salary will be dependent upon education level:
Undergraduate (Junior or Senior) - $23.00/hour
Graduate Student - $25.00/hour


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Data Engineering
•Partner with Investment interns and IT Investment Line of Business teams to scope and execute on internship data projects.
•Work on a selection of IMD (Investment Management Division) data systems, which may include data lake storage (raw and standard zones) and database objects (tables, functions, views, stored procedures).
•Assist with data pipelines by designing and developing various SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS) packages or Synapse Pipelines and Spark Notebooks to extract and transform data.
•Assist with code development, troubleshooting errors, and scheduling and monitoring jobs.
•Conduct basic data analysis and assist in analysis projects.
•Complete stories/tasks in agile development sprints over the course of the internship.

General Functions
•May provide support and collaborate on release management activities.
•May assist in researching, compiling, and analyzing data; entering data into spreadsheets, databases, and other automated applications; and preparing complex queries and reports.
•May review forms, correspondence, reports, and other documents for completeness and acceptability.
•May assist in reviewing and analyzing agency policies, procedures, and forms and recommending changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
•Assists in completing special projects.
•Performs related work as assigned.


 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

Required Education
Classification will depend on qualifications:
•Currently enrolled in and actively attending an accredited college or university as an undergraduate student with a declared major in Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related field; OR
•Currently enrolled as a graduate student (Master or Doctoral) in an Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related field.
•Applicant will be required to submit a copy of official college transcripts.

Preferred Qualifications
•Letter(s) of recommendation from program professor(s) are strongly encouraged.
•Experience using Microsoft Office software.
•At least one hands-on course in data or analytics; OR prior internship in data and analytics; OR completed independent data project.

Knowledge Of
•The practices, principles, and techniques of data management and analytics with the ability to learn and understand various data environments.
•Data lakes and databases, including storage formats, tables, relationships, security, and modeling.
•Performing data analysis and building reports; designing meaningful, for-purpose, and interactive reports and dashboards.

Skills In
•Analyzing routine problems and developing workable solutions.
•SQL including the ability to read and write queries and stored procedures.
•Python including the ability to manipulate data in PySpark DataFrames.
•Planning, organizing, and coordinating work to effectively meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines; handling multiple tasks simultaneously; and managing conflicting priorities and demands.

Ability To
•Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers and other agency staff.
•Work effectively in a professional team environment.
