FPGA Electrical Engineer Intern

Job Description

Primary Function of Position

The FPGA Engineer Intern will develop and support innovative surgical devices and accessories for the da Vinci Surgical System, from concept to launch and beyond, with shared responsibility and shared reward. The successful candidate will understand user needs and requirements, balance individual product-level requirements with system-level requirements, team up with senior level engineers to develop complex FPGA solutions for communications, video, control processing and other advanced capabilities, and commit to the highest product quality.

Essential Job Duties

  • FPGA implementations of one or more of the following: video signal processing, DMA, high-speed communications, sensor integration, motor control, and integration of modern embedded computing modules.
  • Develop FPGA RTL in Verilog and System Verilog.
  • Integrate, debug and support the product after launch.
  • Collaboration and support the quality and regulatory processes.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
  • Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.

Required Education and Training

  • Current enrollment in an Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, or related degree-seeking program at the Master’s level. Bachelor's level students will also be considered based on specific relevant experience.

Preferred Skills and Experience 

  • Familiarity with Linux commands
  • Skilled with Hardware troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of any scripting language
  • Electrical engineering and computer science coursework
  • Previous experience or coursework with Verilog/SystemVerilog for both synthesis and verification.
  • Familiar working with some of Xilinx FPGA families such as: Spartan, Artix, Virtex, Kintex, UltraScale and Ultrascale+ MPSoC.
  • Familiar with Xilinx FPGA design tools (such as ISE, Vivado, ModelSim, TCL scripting, Chipscope/Integrated Logic Analyzer (ILA), Microblaze compiler, etc.)
  • Proficiency English skills (spoken and written).

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay (paid at an hourly rate), benefits, and a housing allowance. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including relevant skills and experience for this internship, degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, etc), year in school, and location. The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.

Base Salary Range Region 1: $114,400 USD - $126,880 USD
