Summer Day Camp Integrated Health Specialist
CAMP O’MALLEY – INTEGRATED HEALTH SPECIALIST

REPORTS TO: Camp Director
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: May 19, 2024 – August 15, 2024 (this includes two weeks of training and one week of wrap up)
HOURS EXPECTED:
- This is a full-time, seasonal position. The expected work schedule is 40 hours per week, with hours typically from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Thursday and Fridays from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
- Flexibility in hours may be needed based on camper needs, special programming, or emergencies.
- Staff is required to participate in pre-camp training and orientations.
COMPENSATION:
- This position offers a stipend of $500/wk for the duration of the camp season, payable bi-weekly.
- In addition to the stipend, the position includes optional housing and lunch during camp sessions.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide a safe and positive environment that aligns with the Camp O’Malley mission and other key youth development strategies.
Responsible for the health and well-being of all campers, staff, and volunteers while at Camp O’Malley. To serve as the emergency medical professional while on duty.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Monitor, evaluate, and care for camper health and well-being
- Review camper health forms and inform staff as needed
- Knowledge of and follow camp health service policy and consult with the Camp Director when needed
- Maintain Health Center inventory, keep first aid kits fully stocked.
- Secure, document, and dispense medications for campers and staff.
- Treat and document injuries, illnesses, other medical problems and keep the Camp Director and parents informed
- Notify Camp Licensing when appropriate using the incident report form (BCAL-4605)
- Assist in providing comprehensive psychosocial assessment for campers on an as needed basis.
- Create and run a cool down corner at camp to support members who are having big feelings or are feeling over-stimulated. Assist in data management and basic data analysis to ensure best practices
- Assist staff with program evaluation and program development.
- Assist in evaluating crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions
- Assist with linking students and families to community resources and supports and completing referrals to organizations when needed
- Actively participate in meetings that support BGCGR students and families when needed
- Assist in the detection of "at risk" students and development of plans to support social emotional growth
- Assist with managing community relations and mental health resources and services for the families we serve
- Develop and maintain working relationship with camp leadership to create a trauma-informed camp environment
- Support the treatment process by helping maintain the therapeutic environment (e.g. providing direction and structure for members, filling in for absent colleagues).
- Provide support and training to camp staff on the areas of trauma informed care and social emotional learning.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Agree and follow the staff code of conduct and all staff policies
- Always Maintain a clean and organized Health Center
- Work with other staff in a collaborative manner
- Participates in weekly Camp staff meetings
- May be required to drive an organizational vehicle
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with camp staff and volunteers, campers, and supervisor to receive/provide information, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct and advise/counsel.
External: Parent communication about pertinent camper information
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years old.

Experience:
- A background in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field, with experience working with children or adolescents, is preferred.
- Experience working with youth ages 6-18, with knowledge of youth development principles and practices.
- Ability to provide medical care in a confidential and professional manner for the population served.

Skills:
- Strong communication skills, including oral, written, and presentation abilities.
- Good computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner with clients.
- Ability to maintain appropriate client boundaries and work effectively in a supportive environment.
- Flexible, motivated, and capable of adapting to the needs of the population served.
- Ability to work comfortably with diverse clients, including children and adolescents.

Certifications:
- Hold a valid license or certification or be able to become certified in one of the following:
- Physician or Physician Assistant
- Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Medical First Responder
- Wilderness First Responder
- Current first aid certification in Responding to Emergencies or equivalent.
- Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
- Hold a valid license or certification or be able to become certified in one of the following:

- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- Valid State ID.

The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office setting to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present. All employees working directly with children at all Boys & Girls Club of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth locations may be required to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions.
