Geologist Intern
Under general supervision, the Geologist Intern performs geologic duties related to mine geology and production at our Spruce Pine, NC high-purity quartz operations, as well as other global sites, as needed. This is a 40-hour a week on-site internship from May through August. The hours are 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Housing will be provided.
Your Impact in This Role
As a Geologist Intern, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Immerse yourself in the mine and plant processes.
- Put your education into action in the field to support and participate in assigned project work.
- Support the mine and plant operations in achieving production goals while partnering with experienced geologists, managers, and production employees in different departments.
- Complete technical projects to gain an understanding of the operations of a high purity quartz operation.
- Learn the mission of the production, maintenance, and quality departments and different job and functions.
- Complete core logging, sampling, and modelling as assigned.
- Complete various surveying needs with GPS and/or UAS drone to support operations and Mine Planning.
- Observe, promote, and always encourage safe working practices with the goal of zero injuries or incidents at the workplace and off site.
What You Bring to the Table
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required.
- Current juniors, seniors, or graduates working toward a degree in Geology or related discipline required.
- Experience in Geology - specifically ore deposits, pegmatites, core logging preferred.
- Experience in surveying – GPS surveying, including UAV preferred.
- Proficient in English. Other languages are an asset.
