Civil Engineering Intern
Lake County Division of Transportation is seeking six Civil Engineering summer interns to work from May 19, 2025 until August 8, 2025. Becoming an intern with the Lake County Division of Transportation will allow you to perform work of routine difficulty in basic para-professional engineering assignments or beginning level engineering work performed in a training capacity. Your day will consist of working directly with higher level technicians or professional engineers.
PAY RATE: $16.80 - $20.87

LOCATION: Libertyville, Illinois

Essential Functions:
Perform work of routine difficulty in basic para-professional engineering assignments or beginning level engineering work performed in a training capacity.
Other assignments may include: surveying and operating survey equipment, performing basic construction inspections, measurement of work quantities and investigations, conducting field and laboratory tests on construction materials; performing various data collection tasks and analysis with the Traffic Engineering Department, and preparing working drawings from rough drafts or notes.

- Must have the ability and willingness to learn engineering tasks and procedures.
- Must have the ability to use engineering equipment, instruments, and testing devices, including computers and software.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
- Must have the ability to effectively problem solve.
- Must have the ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other closely related field.
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License, supplemented by a satisfactory driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION
- Must be willing to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
- Must be willing to perform moderate lifting on a frequent basis
- Must be able to drive a County vehicle
Supplemental Information:
We have six civil engineering summer intern roles to work within our Construction and Traffic departments within the Division of Transportation. These roles are 40 hours a week Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed. Start and end times may vary depending on which department you work for.
