Optical Engineering Intern

Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI), located just north of Boston, MA seeks a rising junior / senior with experience in electronics or fiber optic instrumentation. The intern will support our project focusing on the development of novel fiber optic, non-invasive pressure measurements.

PSI is developing a fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based technology to measure internal pressure in composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs). This non-invasive system preserves gas pressurant integrity and allows for accurate monitoring without disassembling critical system components.

The responsibilities of the intern supporting this project include:

  • Assist in the design, integration, and testing of the FBG-based sensing system
  • Participate in testing activities, including hands-on experiments at PSI
  • Analyze sensor performance data and assist in refining system accuracy and reliability
  • Prepare technical documentation and contribute to system validation efforts.

During this internship, the candidate will work with experts in the field to gain experience performing electronics, fiber optic, and mechanical instrumentation design and development.

This internship may be most beneficial for students pursuing degrees in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or physics.

Candidates must be a US citizen, have a lawful permanent resident of the US or otherwise authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
