Responsibilities

 

The Education Outreach intern will directly work The Ringling's Outreach Coordinator to learn various components related to developing educational materials, and leading community outreach programs.

The intern will be integrated into our current outreach programs through their assisting in, planning, and implementing programs under the supervision of the Outreach Coordinator and in collaboration with Ringling Teaching Artists.

The intern will also learn best practices for collaboration with partner organizations.

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES

Intern responsibilities as the Education Outreach intern will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with in-person, off-site outreach programs
  • Researching the museum collection for outreach programs
  • Creating marketing copy for outreach programs
  • Maintaining and organizing art supplies
  • Additional administrative tasks as assigned

EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES

Through a position as the Education Outreach Intern, the selected candidate will learn:

  • How to collaborate with local partner organizations 
  • Best practices for researching art history-based art activities for a variety of age groups 
  • How to conduct outreach programs with partner organizations 
  • Educational program planning
  • Public speaking skills for a variety of age groups
  • How to work collaboratively in a professional office setting  

ABOUT

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is the state art museum of Florida and consists of multiple venues and departments including art and circus museums, historic mansion, arboretum, rose garden, historic theater, archives, and art reference library – everything suited on a 66-acre campus overlooking Sarasota Bay.

The Ringling's summer internships run from June 2 – July 25, 2025 and combine practical, hands-on experience working on one or more projects while gaining exposure to all aspects of The Ringling’s operation including professional development and cultural enrichment activities.

Qualifications

 

Please note candidate must be able to start on June 2, 2025. 

  • High school diploma or GED and is currently active in obtaining a degree in higher education
  • Reaching and lifting up to 15 pounds
  • A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain
    • A driver's permit cannot be accepted
  • Ability to use Microsoft Suite programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel 
  • Comfortable working with children and serving diverse populations
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Interest in museum studies, education, and community engagement

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with art instruction

Considerations

 

Rate of Pay $15 per hour

Working Hours Up to 40 hours a week (9 AM - 6 PM Tuesday - Saturday)

  • This position is based in Sarasota, FL.
  • This is an OPS/Temporary position. 
  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.
