ABOUT THE Division
General description
Join the Data Analysis and Transparency division team as a Local Government Research Intern! Performs entry-level consultative and technical assistance work in areas such as projects related to policy analysis, economic impact analysis, government transparency, economic development, and other areas. Assists division staff with required and ongoing division projects through research, writing, data analysis, data testing, legislative monitoring and other assigned duties. Potential for off-site training and/or divisional needs. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Work Hours
7 a.m. to 6 p.m., 40-hours per week, Monday through Friday. May occasionally work evenings, weekends or holidays. Hours may change based on business needs.
Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. Applicant will be required to work in office up to 3 days/week, days may vary. The applicant may need to report to the office with little notice, as business necessitates. Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.
Minimum Qualifications
• Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university or a recent graduate within one year.
• Professional or academic experience in research and planning, data analysis and/or policy development relating to general government programs.
Preferred Qualifications
• Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior or recent graduate within one year of an accredited college or university with a minimum of 60 semester hours completed in public administration, government, public policy, statistics, economics, social science, finance, business, research methodology or related field.
• One (1) year of experience in research and planning, data analysis and/or policy development relating to general government programs.
SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. Prior interns have primarily performed sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out various duties. This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and reach as needed to perform filing and other similar routine office duties. Some lifting and/or moving, up to 35 lbs. of office equipment and/or materials may be required on a limited basis. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn recall and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers.
Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.
In this role you will:
• Assists with research, writing, data entry/analysis, statistical analysis and updating division reports, websites and databases.
• Participates in short-term assignments with other Comptroller divisions such as Communications & Information Services, Revenue Estimating, and Tax Policy.
• Ensures accuracy, consistency and effectiveness by reviewing, editing, and proofing data and various reports and materials for internal and external use.
• Provides assistance and administration of state and local economic development programs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
