This will be a summer opportunity with the potential to extend into a school semester. Interns will work full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer months, with the opportunity to work part-time during the school year (10-20 hours/week). Expected start date is May 2025 (after the end of classes).
Position Summary
Work with Xcel Energy Environmental staff to conduct avian, fisheries, and aquatic studies at power plants in MN, WI, ND and SD.
The position will involve collection, identification, weighing and measuring fish and collecting other water quality parameter data.
Enter collected data into spreadsheets, conduct statistical analysis, and draft reports.
Much of the time will be spent outdoors working in a variety of weather conditions, including inclement conditions, and on a non-typical work schedule including extended hours, nights and weekends.
Through practical field experience and mentoring, successful candidate will gain significant professional and personal skills.
Work from our environmental laboratory at the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant 1717 Wakonade Dr., Welch, MN 55089, except for travel to worksite locations in MN, WI, ND and SD.
Travel is expected every other week during the summer months.
Any work required travel to sites will reimburse mileage at a per mile rate following IRS guidelines.
Minimum Requirements
Enrolled in programs focused on Science, Technology, or Mathematics, such as computer engineering, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, accounting, data science, drafting, gas design, electric design, project management, construction management, chemistry, biology, environmental studies, natural sciences, and similar.
