Dance Instructor (Advanced Jazz & Other Styles)

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Jazz Specialist and Dance Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in jazz dance, with the ability to teach advanced jazz classes and beginner to intermediate levels in a variety of other dance styles. This role may also involve assisting with our Heartsong Dance Company and/or Musical Storytellers Musical Theater Company.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Teach advanced jazz classes with a focus on technique, artistry, and performance.

Instruct beginner and intermediate classes in other styles, such as ballet, tap, hip-hop, or contemporary.

Choreograph and teach routines for annual spring recitals.

Assist with choreography and rehearsals for the Heartsong Dance Company and/or Musical Storytellers Musical Theater Company.

Mentor students, fostering their growth in both technical and creative aspects of dance.

Contribute to studio events, performances, and conventions as needed.

Assist with refining and improving the studio’s curriculum and pedagogy, especially for the jazz program.

Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

 

Qualifications:

Experience teaching and performing jazz at advanced levels.

Proficiency in a variety of dance styles for beginner and intermediate levels.

Choreographic experience, particularly in jazz or related styles.

Passion for working with students of all ages and skill levels.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

A collaborative spirit and a positive attitude.

 

Preferred Skills:

Degree in dance or related field.

Experience with musical theater dance styles and choreography.

Previous involvement with performance dance companies.

Familiarity with beginner to intermediate dance pedagogy.

 

Compensation:

Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.
