We’re excited to begin recruitment for our Summer 2025 Intern Program with opportunities for undergraduate students majoring in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, or similar fields of study. Our full-time, paid internships will last for approximately 12 weeks and allow you to gain exposure to real-world applications of your area of study and contribute to our company's success.
As an Intern, you will be paired up with a Mentor who will guide you throughout the internship, which, along with our down-to-earth and approachable culture, will allow you to gain insight and perspective from professionals at all levels of the organization.
You’ll also have a chance to network with interns in other functional areas, meet with our Executive staff, and participate in a community-service-related project. Data, Integration, & Business Intelligence Internship Overview
The Data & Business Intelligence Intern will gain exposure by working alongside our Data/BI development, architectural, and data analysis staff. They will assist the Data/BI team while developing an understanding of the data science function within an insurance organization.
- Internships will start on May 12th and run for 12 weeks, wrapping up on August 1st.
- Interns will work a full-time schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- Ideally, the Intern will work a hybrid schedule consisting of both in-office (1-2 days per week) at our Hastings, Michigan headquarters, and the rest of the week remotely.
Intern Duties & Tasks
- Works with ETL Developers, Data Analysts, modelers, and business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to obtain insights, understanding, and skills in areas that support the data science functions of the organization.
- Can include gathering programming specifications needed to build ETL code that moves data from its origin to its ultimate destination, testing practices, and the use of validation and balancing controls necessary to ensure data integrity.
- Learns and assists with ETL tool administration, environment tuning and maintenance, and provides limited support to data tool users.
- Assists in the development of required documentation associated with the development and maintenance of solutions satisfying all Company, IT and Data Governance policies, procedures, standards, practices, and guidelines.
- Participates in the collaboration between analysts, developers, system owners, quality assurance, business process owners, and data governance in the testing of new and changed data elements, structures, reports, and services.
- Helps identify technologies that could have a potential impact on Company information processes.
Intern Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program from an accredited institution majoring in a related field. Junior / Senior level Computer Science, Networking, and Software Development majors preferred, but not required.
- A minimum of a 3.0 GPA within the major program is preferred.
- Minimum 2.5 GPA cumulative GPA required.
- Prior coding or development experience, either self-paced or through work experiences helpful, but not required.
- Ability to work at least one day weekly at our Hastings, Michigan offices either by residing in the area or within a reasonable commuting distance (housing assistance is not provided).
- Demonstrated professional written and verbal communication ability.
- Proficiency with general business applications ( i.e., Microsoft Office).
