Position Title: Photography Internship
Reporting to: Communication Manager
Compensation: Paid. College credit can be earned
Course Description: The Valley Preferred Cycling Center offers one (2) Photography Internships for students looking to gain valuable experience in the field of sports photography. Our cycling track facility, known as a velodrome, is home to professional cycling racing as well as a broad range of adult and children’s cycling classes and leagues.
For the professional races, students will be documenting Olympians, World Champions, and Olympic hopefuls alongside local heroes for our 2022 season. For the community programs, the student will capture the camaraderie, learning curve, and development of class attendees. This internship allows the student to work closely with VPCC’s communications team and its staff to enhance the coverage of all the VPCC’s events through social media and traditional media campaigns. The student will work one-on-one with our media team for weekly formal reviews of their work.
Portfolio: 15-30 image selections should be submitted with the application. Dropbox, Google Drive, Flickr, etc.,
Timeline: The internship is a part-time position (flexible hours/week) for 15 weeks May – August.
Required coverage for racing programs including all UCI events, twelve (12) Friday Night Lights race events, four (4) Tuesday evenings and a minimum of three (3) Saturday Master’s & Rookies racing sessions. Community Programs include Try the Track, Women’s Wednesdays, Squirts and Weeble Wobbles, PeeWee Pedalers, and Bicycle Racing League. Flexibility is expected to manage your shooting schedule with post-production fulfillments.
Deliverables include edited and formatted assets for social media selections with a minimum of 100 images per session. Large-format images should be delivered upon request. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is required.
Collaboration with our team is essential.
Dress: Comfortable attire for walking around the venue during your sessions. Green vests and access passes will be provided.
Experience and Requirements
● Provide your own equipment including camera / lenses
● Proficiency with DSLR camera bodies and multiple focal length lenses
● Post-Production editing software including Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere
● Instagram, Instagram Stories, IGTV, Facebook, Facebook Live, Twitter
● Deliverables optimized for social media with some asset requests for print
● Familiar with collaborative tools such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or File Transfer Protocol (FTP) ● Experience in sports photography is recommended but not required.
Responsibility Includes but not limited to:
• Work with Executive Director to devise shot list for each event
• Execute shot list during event
• Export, edit and prepare photos from events for publication on the website and social media • Work in a collaborative team environment with all staff positions
