About the Team:

PEOPLE’s accomplished team of editors, writers, designers and photographers are all dedicated to the brand’s core mission: to inform, entertain and inspire by sharing the stories that everyone will be talking about. For 50 years, the PEOPLE team has been comprised of trusted experts in nearly every field. We’re the go-to source for news about celebrities, entertainment and the royals, and we elevate powerful human interest stories and everyday people making a difference in their communities. With decades of experience and a true passion for the subjects we cover, our journalists believe in the power of storytelling to make a difference.

About the Role:

As a People Editorial Intern here at Dotdash Meredith, you will receive first-hand newsroom experience. Learn how a fast-paced media environment operates and come away with strengthened skills in writing, reporting, and interviewing. You will receive your own assignments and gain hands-on experience working with our editors. Attend weekly summer training sessions for both interns and staffers on a variety of topics, including analytics and how to interview celebrities.

Because of the nature of news, some late evening and weekend work will be required.

Responsibilities Will  Include:

  • Pitching story ideas
  • Fact-checking stories for print issues
  • Writing and reporting on stories in the front-of-book sections of the magazine
  • Assisting during live events like awards shows, press junkets, and red carpet events
  • Working on planning documents and event calendars
  • Writing pre-writes for People.com
  • Monitoring and transcribing other media for content suggestions, like talk shows, podcasts, and more

About You:

Candidates for this role should have or be:

  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills
  • Open to new challenges with an affinity for working in a fast-paced, news-driven environment at an expanding and constantly evolving organization
  • A creative thinker, self-starter, professional, resourceful and a team player that can take direction and run with it, asking questions up front to ensure you’re able to complete the task successfully
  • A motivated problem solver who will proactively troubleshoot and create solutions with an ability to see the big picture but pay close attention to detail, too—a thinker and a doer
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace
  • Experience at a campus publication or as an editorial intern; strong writing skills are a must
  • Comfortable using X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok as reporting tools
  • Possess a strong familiarity with the lives of famous people, as well as an interest in current events and social issues
