Summer 2025 IT Infrastructure Intern

We’re excited to begin recruitment for our Summer 2025 Intern Program with opportunities for undergraduate students majoring in an Information Technology related field. Our full-time, paid internships will last for approximately 12 weeks and allow you to gain exposure to real-world applications of your area of study and contribute to our company's success.

As an Intern, you will be paired up with a Mentor who will guide you throughout the internship, which, along with our down-to-earth and approachable culture, will allow you to gain insight and perspective from professionals at all levels of the organization.

You’ll also have a chance to network with interns in other functional areas, meet with our Executive staff, and participate in a community-service-related project. Data, Integration, & Business Intelligence Internship Overview 

The IT Infrastructure Intern at Hastings Insurance will have a chance to not only learn about but support various areas of our IT Infrastructure & Operations division by rotating through the Help Desk, PC Technical Support, and Infrastructure units. The Intern will be assigned a project related to our containerization efforts that they will present to the business on at the completion of their internship.  

  

  • Internships will start on May 12th, 2025 and run for 12 weeks, wrapping up on August 1st.
  • Interns will work a full-time schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Ideally, the Intern will work a hybrid schedule consisting of both in-office (1-2 days per week) at our Hastings, Michigan headquarters, and the rest of the week remotely.

Intern Duties & Tasks 

  • Works with ETL Developers, Data Analysts, modelers, and business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to obtain insights, understanding, and skills in areas that support the data science functions of the organization.
    • Can include gathering programming specifications needed to build ETL code that moves data from its origin to its ultimate destination, testing practices, and the use of validation and balancing controls necessary to ensure data integrity.
  • Learns and assists with ETL tool administration, environment tuning and maintenance, and provides limited support to data tool users.
  • Assists in the development of required documentation associated with the development and maintenance of solutions satisfying all Company, IT and Data Governance policies, procedures, standards, practices, and guidelines.
  • Participates in the collaboration between analysts, developers, system owners, quality assurance, business process owners, and data governance in the testing of new and changed data elements, structures, reports, and services.
  • Helps identify technologies that could have a potential impact on Company information processes.

Intern Requirements 

  • Currently enrolled in a 2 or 4-year undergraduate degree program from an accredited university majoring in an Information Technology related field required. Junior or Senior class level preferred.
    • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA within major program preferred, minimum 2.5 GPA cumulative GPA required.
  • General knowledge and interest of containerization is ideal.
  • Prior customer service experience, either through work or prior internships helpful.
  • Ability to work onsite at our Hastings, Michigan headquarters throughout the Internship program or as needed.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to physically take equipment inventory, including reaching/walking/kneeling, etc. in addition to performing cable management audits throughout the facility to mitigate/eliminate tripping hazards.
