Comptroller - Programmer Analyst Summer Intern

TEMPORARY POSITION

Summer Internship Position will begin June 1, 2025 and will end August 8th, 2025. (40 hours per week)

Agency Work Hours

8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday. May occasionally work evenings, weekends, or holiday.  Hours may change based on business needs. This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule if certain conditions are met; working arrangements may change at any time as business necessitates.

General Description

Performs entry-level computer programming, systems analysis, and coding tasks in support of the Statewide Financial Systems primarily utilizing the Python/Java programming language. Participates in the development of business requirements and performs application analysis, design, and programming. Conducts research on applications, issues and attends meetings to propose technical solutions for user requests. Works with Fiscal Management and Information Technology staff to plan and execute changes and enhancements to existing information systems. Assists with complex information technology systems implementations. Works under supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Qualifications - External

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited four-year college or university, or a recent graduate within one year with major in Accounting, Business Management, Finance, or Information Systems/Technology, or a related field.

Experience:

·        Academic experience or Project related experience in the design and coding of web applications utilizing Python, Java, JavaScript and related front-end technologies.

·        Academic experience or Project related experience in one of the Web development technologies and platforms (Python, Java, J2EE web applications)

 

       Preferred Experience:

·        Experience with modern JavaScript

·        Experience with programming SQL and Relational Database Design.

·        Experience programming HTML, XML, JSON, XSLT and CSS.

·        Experience with Web Services and SOA (SOAP and RESTful API).

·        Experience designing maintainable, scalable, and extensible Java applications.

·        Experience developing (system design and programming) of information systems.

This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out some duties. It requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. It requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers.

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.

 

In this role you will:

·        Assists with coding tasks in Python/Java language and related technologies based on business requirements; designs and codes applications adhering to established architecture, design & coding standards

·        Supports and maintains existing systems, including procedures and technical manuals. Attends the section and/or division in meetings with users and/or management team.

·        Assists with unit testing and writes documentation for computer systems. Develops instructions or manuals for end users.

·        Assists business units with user acceptance testing, writing test plans and test data.

·        Assists with developing diagrams and flowcharts used to represent operations and data flow for applications.

·        Performs other related duties as assigned.
