SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

 

JOB TITLE: Intern- Transportation Electrification

DEPARTMENT: Electrification – Kansas City Headquarters

LOCATION: Kansas City, MO

PAY RANGE: $18.00 - $23.00 / Hour

 

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

The Evergy Electrification team focuses on electrifying transportation, with an emphasis on fleet electrification, public EV charging infrastructure, and residential charging programs. We strive to stay ahead of emerging technologies and EV adoption trends to serve our customers and communities better.

 

Intern Description:

This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the rapidly growing field of electric vehicles (EVs) and their integration into commercial fleets, public charging networks, and residential charging solutions. The intern will work closely with program managers and other internal stakeholders to support various technical aspects of our EV initiatives.

 

Job tasks include but not limited to:

  • Assist in the evaluation and analysis of electrification projects, including technical feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Support the development and implementation of new processes, utility-side design work, and electrical standards related to EV charging infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to optimize the integration of EV charging solutions with existing utility systems and networks.
  • Assist in the technical review of EV charger rebate applications and rate structures for commercial and residential customers.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and cross-functional projects to contribute technical expertise.

 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Candidates must be pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related technical field. They should have a strong interest in electric vehicles, renewable energy, and sustainability, along with a basic understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, and EV charging infrastructure. Proficiency in data analysis, technical research, and report writing, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills, is required. Self-motivation, strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and previous internship or project experience in the energy or transportation sectors are also desirable.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Must have a strong interest in electric vehicles, renewable energy, and sustainability.
  • Must possess a basic understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, and EV charging infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, technical research, and report writing is required.
  • Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be self-motivated, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Working Conditions:

The intern position typically involves remote work on Mondays and Fridays, with in-person work required from Tuesday through Thursday in an office setting. Flexibility is key, as work locations may change based on needs, and participation in electric vehicle promotion events during evenings or weekends may be necessary. Evergy operates out of Wichita, Topeka, and Kansas City, with service centers across the territory, so meetings may occasionally occur at different locations.
