Internship, Technical Illustrator, Service Engineering (Summer 2025)

Consider before applying: This position is expected to start in May and continue through August/September. Internships are in-person for 40 hours a week for a minimum of 12 weeks. Please consider before submitting an application.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time depending on their academic standing.

About The Team 

Tesla is seeking a talented writing and editing student who is interested in the field of Technical Illustration. The Service Engineering team is responsible for technical illustrations and documentation of most after-sales activities involving diagnostics, such as automobile mechanical repair, collision repair, and owner-facing information. The position is located in Fremont, CA or Palo Alto, CA. 

What You’ll Do

  • Create accurate line drawings, renderings, and 3D animations assembled for step-by-step procedures, parts catalogs, and diagrams by manipulating CATIA V5/V6 CAD data
  • Closely work alongside subject matter experts and Technical Writers to deliver high quality Owner’s Manual, Service Manual, and support documentation for both internal and external consumption
  • Work directly from photos or CAD to create high quality fully-rendered images, from concept to production using Adobe Creative Suite tools, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop

What You’ll Bring

  • Pursuing a degree in Technical Writing or Publishing related field of study with a graduation date between 2025 – 2026  
  • Ability to create illustrations with lighter-weight 3D authoring tools such as Keyshot or 3D via Composer to create a variety of technical drawings, illustrations, exploded views, etc. 
  • Experience with at least one CAD program (CATIA V5/V6, Solidworks, Autodesk, or similar) 
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite family of products, especially Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Ability to manipulate/edit existing exploded views and technical drawings and illustrations
  • Experience building and maintaining a graphics/illustration library or working within a Content Management System (CMS)
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task and evaluate priorities
