Visual Arts Internship

Visual Arts Internship (Unpaid)
Location: The Community House, Birmingham, MI

Are you passionate about art and looking to gain hands-on experience in event coordination and nonprofit management? The Community House is seeking a dedicated Visual Arts Intern to help coordinate and support two of our signature arts events: the OUR TOWN Art Show and Sale and Student Art Town. This internship is an excellent opportunity for a college-aged individual interested in community-based arts organizations, event planning, marketing, or nonprofit operations to gain invaluable experience and connect with professionals in the Metro Detroit art scene.

Key Responsibilities:

  • OUR TOWN Art Show and Sale:
    • Assist in the planning and execution of the annual OUR TOWN Art Show and Sale, an in-person and online juried art show featuring over 300 mixed media pieces.
    • Coordinate logistics for the event, including artist registration, online platform setup, and event-day activities.
    • Work closely with curators from the Detroit Institute of Arts, helping facilitate the juried selection process.
    • Support event promotion.
  • Student Art Town:
    • Aid in organizing Student Art Town, a free community event showcasing artwork from students across Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties.
    • Collaborate with local schools and teachers to coordinate student art submissions.
    • Assist with the setup of the gallery and display logistics.
    • Provide on-site management of the event.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in visual arts, nonprofit work, and community engagement.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
