Customer Engagement and Community Services Intern

POSITION PURPOSE 

The Customer Engagement and Community Services Intern will directly support the Residential & Community Services team in partnering with community-based organizations, neighborhood and community centers, and service providers to deliver energy-related services, support, and information directly to customers. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting the planning and facilitation of information sessions and training with teams to improve product awareness and adoption.  

WORK SCHEDULE 

Interns will work full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer months, starting mid-May through early September on a hybrid basis with some remote capabilities. Some of these hours will be prescheduled during evening and weekend hours. 

Upon successful completion of summer term, additional availability to work part-time (15-20 hours/week) during the fall and spring semesters will be available based on business needs  

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 

Assist with crafting and implementing engagement strategies, conducting product and market analysis, and facilitating information sessions and training to improve product awareness and adoption. 

Investigate outreach strategies to increase customer awareness of MGE products and services – research new technologies, documentation for customer outreach and education, and other development work.   

Support inclusive business practices that engage MGE's multicultural customer base. 

Identify community partnerships to educate and engage customers and service providers about ways to manage energy usage and costs.  

Assists with various community events, administrative tasks, and other projects as needed.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

High school degree or equivalent; must be enrolled in an accredited university or college program. Preferred areas of study include business, marketing, communications or related fields. 

Passion for customer/community engagement, sustainability, energy efficiency, and/or lived experience navigating social and institutional barriers faced by communities of color 

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite 

Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas 

Strong business acumen, communication, and interpersonal skills 

Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills 

Must be able to work effectively in a team environment 

Must maintain a valid driver's license 

Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds

JOB LOCATION 

The position is mostly onsite, and office days are in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, where MGE is an active participant in community efforts to preserve the area's extraordinary quality of life. We offer free, on-site parking and are located near biking trails and bus stops. Many employees enjoy the use of our many on-site EV charging stations.
