THE POSITION

 

 

 

Department of Environmental Protection Internships provide an exciting opportunity for students to learn about and assist with the environmental protection activities of various program areas within the agency working towards our mission to protect Pennsylvania's air, land and water from pollution and provide for the health and safety of its citizens through a cleaner environment.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

 

In this internship role, you will receive an introduction and a thorough overview of the diverse programs within a Regional Office, which may encompass Air Quality, Environmental Cleanup and Brownfields, Radiation Protection, Waste Management, Watershed Conservation and Restoration, Clean Water, Waterways and Wetlands, Safe Drinking Water Programs, Mining, and Oil and Gas. Additionally, you will engage in professional public relations activities within the DEP Communications Office. The aim is to offer an educational experience and practical knowledge in the fields of environmental science and sustainability.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

  • Full-time internship that will last from 5/1/2025 through 8/29/2025
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on a schedule that aligns with the supervisor. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:
 

  • Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor’s degree, or advanced degree program in one of the following majors:
    • Communications
    • Environmental Studies
    • Media
  • An approved major course of study at an accredited college or university
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Freshman year completed
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
