ColorLab Art Studio Intern

ColorLab Art Studio Intern Overview

The ColorLab Art Studio Internship at Brooklyn Children’s Museum will enable an intern to have a creative and organizational hand in the generation of hands-on activities for visitors, as well as the execution, and facilitation of programming for family audiences at the Museum. The area of focus within the education department will be the support of weekend programs in ColorLab, the Museum’s art-making space inspired by artists of African descent throughout history and the world.

This intern will also work with the public programming department and have the opportunity to design, plan, and implement activities for festivals, community outreach initiatives, and museum-wide activities.

 

Responsibilities

The ColorLab Studio Art Intern will:

  • Facilitate arts educational programs utilizing Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s collection and interactive exhibitions. Activities include facilitating public programs, art-making activities, and collaboratively workshopping curriculum and educational materials.
  • Participate in the Education Department as an active member to assess and plan for audience needs including program differentiation, evaluation, and post-program feedback.
  • Setting up and breaking down of programs; cleaning of the space as needed.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to holistic education, which involves welcoming, encouraging, and engaging with youth of all types to promote learning.
  • Assist with the design, planning, and implementation of activities for festivals, community outreach initiatives, and museum-wide activities. Planning for Cultural festivals may also include identifying performers, cultural partners, and vendors which may include initiating correspondence, making inquiries, and conducting research. 
  • The execution of cultural festivals at BCM may include supporting the creation of a run of the show, printing signage, supporting interpretation about the festival to be shared with visitors and in museum spaces, and helping to create and install immersive decorations.

 

Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications

The ColorLab Studio Art Intern should:

  • Be able to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Have good communication, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Be comfortable interfacing with the public and museum visitors.
  • Have a passion for education and learning.
  • Be creative and have problem-solving abilities.
  • Have experience with Outlook, Google Drive, and/or Microsoft Suite
  • Familiarity with basic arts and arts education concepts is a plus.

 

Compensation

$22.50 per hour

 

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

Internship Period: June 2 – August 4

Total Weeks: 9 weeks

Work Hours per Week: 28 

Total Hours: 252

Workdays: 4 days per week onsite: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 10AM – 6PM

 

PROGRAM DAY:

On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

These hours are separate from the internship hours.
