Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Pathway to Ph.D. Fellowship Program
Siena College has been awarded a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to provide fellowship support to two qualified candidates who hold a master’s degree in nursing to pursue a PhD in nursing and serve as a full-time teaching faculty member in the Nursing program beginning in fall 2025. The aim of this grant is to address the nursing faculty shortage.
Applicants will be selected through a competitive application process. If selected, candidates will commit to the following:
- Applying to and being accepted into a PhD program at an accredited not-for-profit institution approved by the Siena College nursing department (to be enrolled starting Fall 2025)
- Complete PhD coursework within 3 years (full-time study)
- Complete PhD dissertation within 3 years of completion of PhD coursework
- Serve as a full time teaching faculty member at the rank of Instructor in the Siena College nursing department with a 4/4 workload load
- Instructor role includes: teaching upper division courses in the baccalaureate nursing program, academic advisement, recruitment and other service to the college.
- Continue to teach in the nursing program at Siena College for up to 5 years after earning the PhD unless otherwise determined by the College
Fellowship will cover:
- Cost of tuition up to $31,619.50/yr for up to 3 years
- Reassigned time/release from teaching (3 credits per fall/spring semester) to work on PhD coursework for up to 3 years
- Assigned mentor from the tenured faculty of the Siena College nursing department
- Fellowship will be renewable each year for up to three years of tuition and reassigned benefits

A minimum of three (3) years teaching in baccalaureate nursing is preferred. A background screening will be required.

Siena College offers a competitive salary & benefits package. Annual salary is $60,000.
