Mentor and Teaching Assistant

M1 student to serve as mentor and teaching assistant for the Bound Together Summer Mini Medical Program from 6th-8th graders. Bound Together has served Pontiac, MI children in 1st-8th since 1994. 90% of clients are African American, 10% Hispanic, 80% asset-limited/income constrained/employed. They provide tutoring, guidance, and a safe place for students to interact free of charge, utilizing the strengths and assets of the community to promote the success of their clients.  Requirements: Positive attitude, patience, and enjoy working with kids. Teaching experience with adolescents is a plus. Expected to be on site 8:30 am to 4:30 pm every day. Task: Mentors will participate in 2 days of training the week prior on trauma informed practices, ways to engage kids, and expectations of the program. Mentors will help students perform lab exercises and research information. Mentors will engage students in small group exercises and help students transition between tasks. Mentors may have the opportunity to help lead lessons. Employment subject to background check.
