Pottery Instructor

Description

Participants in the College Internship Program will be responsible for a role, as a Printmaking Instructor,  Music Instructor or Pottery Instructor assigned to the Activities Team.   The Activities Team will assist the Frost Valley Summer Camp Directors and Leadership teams in planning, participating and implementing summer camp daily activities with day and overnight campers.  Our Activities Team is an essential part of assisting with check in and check out processes, assisting with luggage and meal times.  A principal job function is to ensure that quality service is provided to all participants and families.  College credit will be given based upon the outlined credentials assigned by the respective SUNY college/institution.

INTERN PARTICIPANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Meet or exceed the standards of the American Camp Association and the Ulster County Board of Health.
  • Coordinate with multiple departments to ensure professional standards of Summer Day Camp, Overnight camping and the Frost Valley YMCA.

  • Perform other duties as assigned below according to position:

POTTERY INSTRUCTOR POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Instruct campers aged 7-15 on wheel pottery and glazing
  • Experience in using the kiln
  • Experience in glazing
  • Utilize prior experience to develop exciting educational programs for campers
  • Preferred experience in teaching art to children
  • Maintain a clean work and learning environment in the pottery studio
  • Maintain program equipment in working order
  • Progressively build camper competency in pottery
  • Write lesson plans that align with FV’s curriculum and core-values
  • Work with the other Pottery Instructor to organize your studio

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Experience working with children aged 4-16, or a desire to do so
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Able to provide excellent customer service and maintain a high level of attention to detail in all work
  • Be a strong leader and be able to work well with a team of others
  • Able to multitask and handle pressure well
  • Enjoy working with children, teens, families and other staff

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • The Intern must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The Intern may be required to stand on their feet for long periods of time.
  • Intern must be able to occasionally traverse rough terrain.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
