Member Services Assistant
JOB SUMMARY
The Member Services Assistant serves as the first point of contact for students, members, and guests, providing exceptional customer service both in person and over the phone. Responsibilities include offering information on memberships and programs, conducting facility tours, and fostering a welcoming environment while professionally addressing guest concerns. This role also ensures authorized access to the facility by verifying memberships, identifying valid credentials, and following the daily schedule. Additionally, the Member Services Assistant manages daily retail and equipment inventory and provides timely, reliable support to all customers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrate positive customer service experiences
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
- Ability to Work Independently: Proven track record of effectively managing time and tasks with minimal supervision while consistently meeting deadlines and achieving goals.
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional focus on accuracy and thoroughness, ensuring that all tasks are completed with care. Skilled in identifying potential errors or areas for improvement in processes.
- Professionalism: Maintains a high standard of professionalism in all interactions, demonstrating respect, courtesy, and a positive attitude in fast-paced environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Greet and welcome students, members, and guests.
- Ensure authorized access to the facility by verifying memberships, identifying valid credentials, and following the daily schedule.
- Offering information about membership and programs through both in-person and phone communication.
- Provide facility tours to guests upon request.
- Work with other Member Services employees and the Building Manager to ensure a safe environment for our members.
- Provide appropriate care in emergency situations as stated in the Emergency Action Plan.
- Maintaining a clean work environment.
- Identify the best solutions to ensure guests have a positive experience when challenges arise.
- Delivers prompt and reliable service to both internal and external customers,
- Keep daily retail inventory and equipment inventory.

COMPENSATION
- $15/hour - Minimum rate for new hires
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must be available to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and early mornings.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
- Act in accordance with the Clery Act as a mandated reporter and carry out responsibilities in reporting a crime on campus as a University Recreation and Well-Being staff member.
- Must be enrolled part-time, at least 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate students and 4 credit hours for graduate students at Oakland University.
- Certification in Group Exercise instruction by a reputable agency is required.
- Must obtain American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification upon hire
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
- Member Services Assistants report directly to the Assistant Director of Membership and Facilities.
- Member Services Assistants report indirectly to the Member Services and Technology Team Lead.
- Additionally, Member Services Assistant may receive on-duty requests or instruction from any Rec Well professional staff member.
