Internship Program in Supply Chain
Distribution Management Inc. is offering a hands-on internship program for students who are seeking real-world experience in supply chain and distribution operations. Over the course of the 11-week paid internship program, participants will work closely with their peers, operations teams, and other industry professionals to gain an in-depth knowledge of distribution center processes.
At the beginning of the summer, interns will be immersed in a month-long rotation program where they will be guided through every department of the distribution center by process experts. Interns will then have the opportunity to apply what they learned through a series of process improvement projects. The intern class will work together on the first project to provide a solution to an assigned problem. Interns will conclude the program by selecting their own process improvement project that they will plan, test, and present to a panel of supply chain leaders and executives.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop a thorough understanding of distribution center processes, including:
- Receiving items into the building and updating inventory records.
- Identifying and correcting inventory discrepancies.
- Slotting items in efficient pick locations.
- Picking orders via robotics, forklift, or manual processes.
- Packing orders with an optimal boxing solution.
- Managing returned items.
- Collaborate with team members to complete a group project.
- Identify an area for improvement.
- Develop and test a process improvement initiative.
- Capture data and present the results to leadership teams.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area. Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse. Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety and Complies with OSHA and other appropriate standards.
Position requirements:
- Must have completed sophomore year of education.
- Commitment to an 11-week program(40 hours per week).
- Punctual with good attendance.
- Takes an active interest in meeting the needs of the business as communicated by supervisors and managers.
- Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
- Ability to travel daily to the distribution center (St. Peters, Missouri).
Preferred qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Operations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Academic excellence (3.25 GPA or higher)
