Electrical Engineer - Intern
The Intern role is an introduction into the world of forensic and consulting engineering. The Intern will experience all facets of forensic engineering consulting including, but not limited to, technical research, report writing, site inspections and test projects. The role will receive coaching and mentorship provided by the Team Leads as well as access to all engineering and core functions of the company.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Apply technical discipline to conduct in-depth technical research concerning pricing, specifications and equipment repair options and replacements.
Contribute to the investigation of an incident including but not limited to collection of evidence, documentation of site and associate equipment and photograph all equipment and areas related to the claim.
Work with the Team Lead to write reports based on investigative findings.
Travel to required location(s) for either site inspection, trial witness requirements, or client meetings.
Setup and run test projects. Collect the requisite data and distill the data into usable information.
Assist consultants with marketing efforts and matter related work on an as needed basis.
Required Skills/Abilities:
General knowledge of engineering principles
Strong technological skills and mathematical reasoning
Strong written and oral expression and comprehension
Critical thinking and problem-solving ability with the ability to troubleshoot technical problems
Highly organized with attention to details
Proficient knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word and Excel
Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to contribute to the team-centric culture
Cooperative and flexible in attitude and manner
Education and Experience:
Attend 3rd year status in an accredited Electrical Engineering Program.
Students currently in a Master’s program preferred.
Available to work in the Chicago, IL or Columbus, OH area.
Work experience is a plus
Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally performed in a typical office environment, with limited exposure to harsh weather conditions, loud internal or external noise, fumes, or significant temperature changes. Minimal, occasional travel may be required.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS: Work can involve lifting and carrying up to 10 - 20 lbs.; frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and reaching; occasional kneeling and stooping; operating office equipment; periodic driving likely; visual acuity to prepare, read, and organize detailed hard copy and electronic documents; ability to speak and to hear the spoken word in normal face-to-face, telephonic, and web-based business communications. Willingness to accommodate occasional meetings and work activities that may be scheduled after normal daytime business hours.
Site inspections will require the ability to stand and walk for in excess of 6 hours. The inspections will also involve traversing sites where an incident, failure, or disaster has occurred. The terrain may be uneven and contain debris from the incident. There will also be an inventory of equipment which will involve bending, kneeling, or stooping to obtain the equipment information. The appropriate PPE will be required for these inspections. At times, artifacts from the site inspection will be secured which will involve the lifting, protecting and manipulating items up to 60 lbs.
