Student Program Board - Executive Board

The Student Program Board strives to enhance student life by providing high quality and diverse programs, activities, and events for the Oakland University Community. SPB is the largest event planning body at Oakland University. We pride ourselves on providing superior entertainment and enrichment opportunities for students outside the classroom. Student Program Board embodies the ideology that real learning extends beyond the classroom here at OU. These year-long positions is for students of all majors who want to develop real world skills in management, budgeting, communication, public speaking, marketing and event planning. It is the role as a member of the Student Program Board Executive Board to effectively plan, market and execute high profile events on campus. Successful candidates will have strong communication skills, leadership skills and extreme attention to detail. Your responsibilities will depend on which position you apply for. Students may pick their top four choices to apply for on Executive Board. 

Positions are as follows: Annual-Events Director, Special Events Director, Diverse Events Director, Creative Director, Marketing Director, Treasurer, Technical Director, and Operations Event Staff. 

Responsibilities of all positions: Maintaining a GPA of 2.5; submitting event evaluations; tracking event attendance; completing 5 weekly office hours; participating in Executive Board meetings, assisting in development, setup, implementation, staffing, clean up and evaluation of all SPB sponsored activities; presenting expenditure proposals, attending weekly committee meetings, and completing monthly face-to-face marketing, submitting a weekly expense report.

 Annual Events Director -The Annual Events Director is responsible for: creating and hosting events that contribute to traditions of OU; creating and hosting recurring events such as the Welcome Week Carnival and Casino Night; coordinating quality programs that meet needs of the OU community; disseminating necessary information to marketing and creative to allow them to fulfill their duties. 

Special Events Director -The Special Events Director is responsible for: creating and hosting new unique events with an emphasis on commuter and late night programming; coordinating quality programs that meet needs of the OU community; disseminating necessary information to marketing and creative to allow them to fulfill their duties; submitting event evaluations. 

Diverse Events Director -The Diverse Events Director is responsible for creating and hosting events that bring attention to diversity of OU; coordinating quality programs that meet needs of the OU community; disseminating necessary information to marketing and creative to allow them to fulfill their duties. -Shall be required to serve on any and all campus-wide committees pertaining to diversity and inclusion at Oakland University, when able (ie, Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, African American Celebration Month Committee, and Pride Month Committee). 

Creative Director -The Creative Director is responsible for: creating all necessary materials and graphics relevant to the promotion and execution of SPB events and the Student Program Board brand.

Marketing Director -The Marketing Director is responsible for: marketing and distributing all SPB materials and advertisements; website design and maintenance; administration of social media sites; promotion of SPB; creating a Marketing Timeline. ​Technical Director -

The Technical Director is responsible for: all technical elements necessary for events or to satisfy a contract or performer rider; maintaining an inventory of technical equipment; maintaining all technical equipment. 

Treasurer -The Treasurer is responsible for tracking and logging all expenses of the Student Program Board, Payroll, purchasing necessary items, and executing contracts on behalf of the Student Program Board.

Operations Event Staff -Operations Staff Members will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks. These tasks range from event support, tabling, and attending Executive Board meetings. Operations Staff Members will be expected to attend SPB events and assist in assigned roles from greeting students, serving food, distributing giveaways, and a variety of other tasks. Operations Staff Members will also be expected to "table" on behalf of SPB. This refers to the member distributing giveaways and explaining SPB events to students.
