Summer Engineering Intern TA for LEGO robot, 3D printing, or Game Design classes in Columbus, OH

Exciting Summer Internship for Engineering Students Who Love Inspiring Kids!
Hands-On Robotics, Programming, and Teaching Experience

Are you an Engineering or Computer Science student eager to apply your technical know-how while inspiring the next generation of young innovators? Join us this summer in Columbus, Ohio to lead hands-on LEGO robotics, 3D printing, and game development classes. You’ll gain practical experience in robotics, programming, and mechanical design—all while building your teaching and leadership skills.

Position Details

  • Location: Columbus, Ohio (No relocation offered; applicants must be local or plan to be in the area for the summer.)
  • Schedule:
    • Full-Time or Part-Time (Flexible)
    • Camps run Monday to Friday, 9 AM–5 PM, with optional Saturday classes.
    • Camps are offered weekly at various locations around Columbus, Ohio.
    • Dates: May 21, 2025, to August 1, 2025 with opportunity to work during the school year. 
  • Compensation: $20 per hour
  • Transportation: You must have a car to reach various camp locations around Columbus.

Why This Role?

  • Gain Real-World Engineering Experience: From building and optimizing servos to creating custom robot kits, you’ll actively apply your engineering skills.
  • Develop Teaching & Leadership Skills: Lead robotics lessons for kids ages 4 to 14, guiding them through coding and design challenges.
  • Collaborate on Special Projects: Contribute to curriculum design, SEO optimization, video content production, and more at our Dublin office.
  • Expand Your Technical Toolkit: We use mBlock (Scratch), LEGO robotics, 3D printers, and occasionally GarageBand on iPad. Experience with these tools is a plus, but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Teach LEGO Robotics & Programming: Introduce kids to coding concepts using Scratch (mBlock) while encouraging them to solve problems independently.
  2. 3D Printing & Mechanical Design: Assist in demonstrations and hands-on lessons that spark creativity and innovation.
  3. Project Support: Help develop curriculum, build and optimize servos, design custom robot kits, and produce video lessons for our programs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Passion for Teaching Kids (ages 4-14) about science, technology, and engineering.
  • Flexible Availability when kids are out of school (Saturdays, after-school); schedule can vary, and you do not need to be available for all classes.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to break down and explain engineering concepts without completing activities for the students.
  • Transportation: Must have a car to commute to various locations around Columbus.

Preferred (But Not Required) Skills

  • Experience with robotics, 3D Printing, GarageBand, Arduino, LEGO, or Scratch programming.  Preferred skills but extensive training prior to camps will provide expertise before working with the students.
  • Having your own laptop or iPad for classroom demos is helpful, but not mandatory.
