OVERVIEW
The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies seeks students and young professionals to intern hybrid or remote, depending on their assignment. Current students and recent graduates of all levels and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
All APAICS interns will spend the majority of their time working on content-based projects that will support our national, regional, and local programs and initiatives. For the Summer 2025 term, we seek three interns: a Communications Intern, a Programs Intern, and an Administrative Intern.
ABOUT APAICS
APAICS is a national, non-partisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander participation and representation at all levels of the political process from community service to elected office. APAICS programs focus on developing leadership, building public policy knowledge, and filling the political pipeline for Asian Americans and Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders to pursue public office at the local, state, and federal levels.
INTERNSHIP OPENINGS
- Communications Intern
- Examples of duties include: preparing briefings, drafting newsletters, creating digital/social media content, and developing digital marketing strategies.
- Programs Intern
- Examples of duties include: support program logistics and events, update and maintain spreadsheets, and assistance with research and data collection.
- Administrative Intern
- Examples of duties include: preparing letters and reports, compiling data on AA & NH/PI candidates and elected officials, identifying community leaders and local issues of importance, and assistance with APAICS events.
REQUIREMENTS
- Programs and Administrative interns MUST be in the Washington metropolitan area for the entire program duration. Communications intern may be remote, but in-person is preferred.
- All interns will be expected to support APAICS events and may be asked to support other APAICS departments outside their assignments.
- All interns will attend in-person and virtual professional development and networking events featuring elected officials, partners, and community leaders.
No previous experience is necessary, but the following qualifications would be an asset:
- Knowledge and Interests
- Understanding of issues affecting Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities
- Passion for politics, government, and public policy
- Interest in learning about the inner workings of nonprofit organizations and event planning
- Flexibility
- Ability to jump between projects from day to day
- Willingness to assist wherever needed based on organization’s needs
- Software experience
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Google Docs, Sheets
- Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva
- Databases
- Communications
- Strong writing ability for multiple audiences
- Keen proofreading and editing skills
- Attention to detail
TIME COMMITMENT (Exact dates flexible/subject to change)
- Orientation: June 4th, 2025
- Spring 2025 Program: June 4, 2025 to August 15, 2025
- Work for a minimum of 10 weeks during the semester
- Work at least 15-20 hours per week
- Some hours may be worked outside of regular work hours.
- Programs Interns will be requested to work at least 20 hours per week
COMPENSATION
Interns not receiving college internship placement credit will be paid Washington, DC, minimum wage (currently $17.50 hourly).
