The Job
Building Envelope Commissioning (BECx) is a rapidly growing field in the construction industry. BECx is the 3rd party review of the design and construction of the building shell to optimize it for energy efficiency and durability.
The current opening is for a summer intern in Building Envelope Commissioning. This is a field position, meaning, much of the work is at project sites in New England. The Building Envelope Commissioning Intern works on commercial and institutional construction projects performing the following tasks:
- Assisting with building envelope evaluations and testing on existing buildings.
- Assisting with envelope tests during construction: window air and water tests, infrared imaging, blower door tests, adhesion tests, fog tests. We will train you on the testing procedures.
- Assisting with building envelope forensics and diagnostic testing.
- Assisting with envelope inspections during construction.
- Assisting with Energy Audits focused on the building envelope.
- Writing field reports.
- Assisting with commissioning plans and specifications.
- Participating in envelope commissioning meetings.
- Assisting the commissioning team on plan and specification reviews.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Major in architecture or construction management.
- Completed coursework in construction, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Familiarity reading commercial construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
- Excellent communication skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and working with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Written communication skills, including ability to write reports and emails.
- Proficiency with email, MS Word, and Excel is required.
- A valid driver’s license and dependable automobile for reimbursable travel is required.
- Prior energy audit, blower door, or infrared imaging experience is helpful, but not required.
Location
This is home based job with day trips to project sites in New England.
Travel
Weekly travel by car to project sites in Massachusetts and Connecticut, occasional travel to other New England States. Travel costs are reimbursed.

Qualifications
Education
Preferred
Some college or better in Architecture.
Some college or better in Construction Management Services.
