Oakland Thrive is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting small businesses in Oakland County, with a focus on under resourced communities and business owners. Through strategic partnerships, technical assistance, and community-driven programs, we provide the resources small businesses need to succeed and grow.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Marketing & Events Intern to support our marketing initiatives and event planning efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing, event coordination, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, organized and passionate about helping small businesses thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
Marketing & Communications:
Assist in creating content for Oakland Thrive’s social media channels, website, newsletters, and promotional materials.
Develop, schedule, and post engaging social media posts that align with our mission and brand.
Support the design and distribution of marketing materials for events and programs.
Research and implement new marketing strategies to enhance brand visibility and audience engagement.
Event Planning & Coordination:
Assist in the planning, logistics, and execution of Oakland Thrive events, including B2B workshops, networking sessions, and support for annual events.
Help manage event registration, communications, and follow-up efforts.
Provide on-site support during events, including setup, check-in, and audience engagement.
Administrative & Support Tasks:
Assist Strategic Partnership Manager with strategic partnership tasks and organization.
Assist with copywriting, graphic creation, storytelling, data entry, social media write-ups.
Data entry, consolidation of internal processes and information, onboarding of B2B providers.
Maintain and update contact lists, marketing calendars, and event planning documents.
Assist with Thrive Drive data clean up.
Compile reports on marketing and event performance metrics.
Create workflow templates for events, workshops, and cohorts.
Qualifications & Skills:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Marketing, Communications, Event Management, Business, Political Science, or a related field.
Strong ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Strong writing and communication skills, including copywriting.
Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
Knowledge of graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, inDesign) is a plus.
Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Passion for small business development and community impact.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
