Marketing Video Production Intern

What you'll do
 

Video Production is a hard industry to break into – we know, we’ve been there! But if you’re in school and you’re working towards a creative career in Video, this is a great opportunity to join the Viasat Internship Program. You’ll get some hands-on experience, explore different avenues that might interest you, and work with some cool people from a variety of backgrounds along the way.

This position is with the Viasat Marketing Video Team in Carlsbad, CA. We're a close-knit team of Video Production professionals who love what we do. We're passionate about creating high-quality video content that lives up to the cool stuff happening at the company. We're not just colleagues, we're a team, and we're looking for someone who wants to jump in and be a part of the action.


The day-to-day
 

You'll primarily be focused on video editing, but you'll also get exposure to:

  • Live Shoots: Capture the excitement of events, set up professional lighting, and conduct engaging interviews.
  • Motion Graphics & Animation: Everything from 2D mograph and kinetic text to full-on 3D animation.

Don't worry if you're not an expert in everything – we're here to help you grow! All you need is a passion for video and a desire to dive in and learn.

Forget the busywork. You'll be collaborating directly with our Producers, Video Editors, Camera Operators, and 3D Animators as a regular team member, contributing to projects going out in the wild from Day One.

Internship Program Details: 

  • You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.
  • Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.
  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.


What you'll need
 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Film, Communications, Marketing, or similar field – anything where you’ll be working with media.
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026.
  • Proficiency in basic office software (Word/Google Docs, Powerpoint/Slides, etc).
  • Familiarity with professional video editing software (FCP, Premiere, Resolve, etc). 

Internship Dates: 

  • You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:
    • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 – August 15th, 2025
    • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 – September 12th, 2025


What will help you on the job
 

You're someone who gets excited about the power of video. You might have experience in video production, or maybe you're just starting out and eager to learn. You're interested in:

  • Storytelling: You know how to craft a compelling narrative.
  • Shooting: You're keen to learn the ins and outs of capturing great footage with professional cinema cameras.
  • Editing: All things to do with the world of post-production.
  • Motion Graphics/3D Animation: You're fascinated by the magic of bringing visuals to life.
    ...or all of the above! We love multi-talented folks!

Lastly, we are primarily an Adobe house. If you have any After Effects, Maya, Blender, C4D, etc skills, that’s a huge plus! 


Salary range

$20.91 - $56.97 / hourly. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly

Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
