This position serves as a GenTax Developer for the GenTax Registration supporting the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR).
This position coordinates and conducts difficult and specialized application development for systems and/or sub-systems of average complexity associated with the Tax Data Warehouse & Research section in the GenTax Integrated Tax System.
In this role you will confer with users to determine needed changes and enhancements and perform comprehensive studies and analyses of client needs and objectives.
In addition, you will conduct system analysis by charting process flow and perform specification writing, coding, testing and audit trails as well as serving as a project leader.

Essential Functions
- Under general direction, serves as a GenTax Developer for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the Department of Revenue (IDOR) coordinating and conducting difficult and specialized application development systems and/or sub-systems of average complexity associated with the Collections – Audit - Warehouse & Research section in the GenTax Integrated Tax System.
- Performs comprehensive studies and analyses of client needs and objectives including specification writing, coding, testing, audit trails, and developing control procedures.
- Serves as project technical coordinator for standard projects including small/medium size hardware/software deployments and installations.
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field by continuing education through meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience in Application Services or a related Information Technology field.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of professional experience in application development utilizing Microsoft SQL, VB.Net, C#, and object-orientated programming.
- One (1) year of professional experience conducting needs analysis, developing specifications, coding, testing, and implementing controls to interpret requested changes to the GenTax system or similar tax processing system.
- One (1) year of professional experience performing maintenance and enhancements within the GenTax Integrated Tax System or similar tax processing system, including ensuring security compliance and providing user support.
- One (1) year of professional experience working with electronic transfer utilities and managing Federal Tax Information to ensure compliance with security protocols and data integrity standards.
- One (1) year of professional experience leading or coordinating software or hardware projects, including scheduling and assigning tasks.
- One (1) year of professional experience working with the complexity of the various parts of the functions contained in the Audit, Collections, Interfaces, and Discovery portions of the GenTax System, or of a similar tax processing system.
- Working knowledge of developing and executing test plans, including preparing test scripts, creating test data, verifying logic paths, and fine-tuning programs to meet system objectives.
- Working knowledge of the methods, procedures, and techniques of conducting feasibility studies for system conversions and enhancements.
- Developed verbal and written communication skills to present information to others with clarity and precision.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients and others.
