This position serves as a Database Administrator for the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT), supporting the Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) performing complex professional and advisory and advisory functions in Systems Services.
In this role, you will provide technical consultation on software, utilities, and hardware products used for large-scale computer systems in the development of databases and computer applications.
In addition, you will develop, support, and resolve the more difficult, complex report issues.
Additionally, you will develop and implement complex, detailed database maintenance plans encompassing integrity checks and updating statistics.

Essential Functions
- Under administrative direction, serves as a Database Administrator for the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT), supporting the Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS), performing complex professional and advisory functions in Systems Services.
- Develops, supports, and resolves the more difficult, complex reports issues, and recreates reports utilizing Crystal Reports and SQL reporting tools.
- Provides input into large scale database design reviews during the application development process for complex computer systems.
- Schedules and manages difficult and complex jobs for data transfers and procedures by the utilization of database tools for monitoring performance and impact on normal operations.
- Analyzes long-term database performance trends to optimize database performance by reviewing, installing, and configuring DBMS software and application service packs and/or patches.
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field by continuing education through meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with coursework in computer science or directly related fields.
- Requires three (3) years of professional experience in Systems Services or a directly related Information Technology field.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Three (3) years of professional database administration experience managing Microsoft SQL Server, IMS, and DB2, including installation, configuration, patching, performing tuning, and backup/recovery to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
- Three (3) years of professional experience providing technical consultation on software, utilities, and hardware products used for large-scale computer systems in the development of databases and computer applications.
- Three (3) years of professional information systems experience in Microsoft SQL/Legacy database administration.
- Three (3) years of professional experience providing leadership, guidance, and technical assistance to lower-level team members regarding complex database administration activities.
- Three (3) years of experience with Crystal Reports, SQL-based reporting, and legacy database tools, including troubleshooting, optimizing, and developing complex reports to support database operations.
- Extensive knowledge of database design reviews, integrity checks, performance tuning, security management, and resource optimization to ensure efficient and secure database operations.
- Extensive knowledge of user access management, security policies, backups, transaction log management, and system compatibility to ensure database integrity and performance.
- Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgement in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
- Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.
- Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision.
