SUMMER INTERN – Graphic Design (Community Relations)

THE CITY OF DOUGLASVILLE IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR OUR SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM!

This learning experience affords the students a view of the inner workings of city government. Each intern will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of study. Each intern must be open to new ideas and suggestions, and be committed to completing the internship in its entirety.

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

The intern will support the Community Relations Department by assisting with design projects, digital content creation, and visual branding efforts. They will gain hands-on experience in graphic design software, project workflow, and branding standards while contributing to real-world projects. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Design Assistance:

  • Assist in creating graphics for social media, website, and marketing materials.
  • Support in designing event flyers, posters, banners, and presentations.
  • Help with updating and maintaining design templates.

2. Digital Content Creation:

  • Edit and format images for various digital and print platforms.
  • Assist in creating infographics and visual assets for city projects.
  • Work on simple animations or motion graphics, if applicable.

3. Branding & Compliance:

  • Ensure all designs adhere to Douglasville’s branding guidelines.
  • Help maintain consistency across all visual assets.

4. Production Support:

  • Assist with printing, cutting, and mounting materials as needed.
  • Support in organizing digital asset libraries and design files.

5. Collaboration & Learning:

  • Attend team meetings and brainstorming sessions.
  • Receive feedback from the graphics team to improve design skills.
  • Shadow and learn from experienced designers to enhance technical knowledge.

6. Administrative Support:

  • Organize and archive past projects for reference.
  • Assist in tracking project timelines and deliverables.
  • Help prepare presentations or reports related to design projects.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A Junior, Senior, or recent Graduate (within the last year), majoring in Business Administration, Public Administration, Graphic Design or related major preferred; Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and excellent oral and written communications skills are all essential to this position.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Incumbent works in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.

Typically, 30+ hours per week; The rate of pay will be paid at $20 per hour.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

· United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States

· Current enrollment in a Georgia college, university, or technical school (or recently graduate within the last year)

· Current grade point average of 3.0 or better
