Engineering Internship

The Leidos Cargo Mission Contract currently has an opening for an engineering internship to work in our Webster, Texas office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your fabrication and design experience to provide mission support for NASA and commercial programs. This position will provide hands on fabrication and design support of foam, metal, plastic, and textile products to our cargo and engineering teams through use of hand tools, additive manufacturing, and CNC machining. The ideal candidate must be willing to embrace a culture of safety, showcase exceptional teamwork, problem solving, quality and excel when provided training and work the necessary hours to complete the task assigned within the provided schedule demands.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assist the Leidos Manufacturing team by providing design and fabrication support of mockup, training, and flight hardware for the ISS, Exploration, and commercial space flight programs. Additional duties will include providing hands on support for prototyping, 3D printing, soft goods, electronic, large-scale mockups, and mechanical components or equipment builds.

Program and operate 3D printers

Operate CNC Machines

Perform hands on fabrication of contract products

Provide technical engineering support and perform steps via work authorizing documents

Support mockup design and development

Move furniture, support lab organization, facility maintenance, and cleaning as required

Basic Qualifications:

Enrolled in BS degree or Masters, in a relevant area of study and working towards a degree and experience in manufacturing and design, or related field at an accredited college/university.

Experience in the use of powered and unpowered tools to fabricate end items

Thorough understanding of how to read and implement requirements from engineering drawings

Experience mockup fabrication for the NASA community

Experience in computer aided drafting (CAD) software

U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residence status is required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experienced in running and programming additive manufacturing systems

Experience in metal or plastics Fabrication

Experience in operating CNC routers

Experience in mockup fabrication or rapid prototyping
