Grant Writer & Fundraising Volunteer Intern

Sharing Hope Africa is looking for a Grant Writer & Fundraising Volunteer Intern who is an energetic and fun-loving individual. This role will assist in the planning, writing, and submittal of various grants to fund SHA projects, as well as fundraising campaigns. This position can be remote or in-person.

What You'll Do

• Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Work with our grant leader to identify and categorize potential grants that would be good fits for the organization 
  • Maintain a grant tracking database, organizing deadlines, requirements, and application statuses
  • Assist in writing and submitting grant applications, including gathering necessary documents and impact data
  • Stay informed about new funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources
  • Compile our quarterly donor reports to show donors the impact they are making with their contributions
  • Develop personalized donor thank-you messages, impact updates, and engagement strategies to strengthen relationships
  • Assist in managing a donor database, tracking contributions, donor interactions, and fundraising progress
  • Brainstorm creative fundraising ideas to support SHA’s programs, such as crowdfunding campaigns, online giving drives, and corporate sponsorships
  • Research and propose new revenue-generating opportunities, such as partnerships, merchandise sales, or donor membership programs
  • Assist in developing grant proposal narratives, donor presentations, and sponsorship outreach materials
  • Monitor and report on grant application outcomes, including success rates and feedback for future improvements
  • Track fundraising performance metrics, such as donor retention, campaign success, and grant funding received
  • Provide monthly progress updates to SHA leadership on grant applications, donor engagement, and fundraising initiatives

Who Are You

• A high school or college student/graduate who has a passion for community gatherings and an interest in pursuing a career in grant writing and fundraising
• Real life experience or degree surrounding writing, marketing, business, event promotion, etc.
• Critical thinker possessing excellent analytical abilities with the ability to reach logical conclusions based on the available information
• Familiar with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
• Ability to manage multiple projects, while maintaining high attention to detail
• Self-starter attitude
• Intellectually curious, ability to think outside the box, assertive
• Hard working, smart, creative, analytical, driven, exceptionally organized
• Strong communication skills and results driven

Unfortunately, we cannot offer monetary compensation (our entire operational team is powered by volunteers!), but as a part of the Sharing Hope Africa Family, we will:

• Assist you in creating a resume that will help you land your next job (our Director of Outreach & Media worked as a resume writer)
• Provide you with the support and resources necessary to manage and execute on a career-focused project based on your interests (i.e. building a brand book, increasing social media engagement by X%, designing and orchestrating a community event, etc.), which can be showcased on your resume or supplemental for a class project
• Offer coaching sessions to help you identify and land your dream role
• Cover your accommodation should you decide to join a volunteer trip to our project sites in Eswatini and Mozambique
