Position Title: Engineering Maintenance Support, Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate $19.00 (Undergraduate)
Overview of Department:
Department of Subways - Division of Car Equipment (DCE) Schedule Maintenance Systems (SMS) group is responsible for planning and supporting the overhaul of Subway Cars. The Intern will help with the formulation of future Schedule Maintenance Systems (SMS) Component plans by researching subway car component failure, updating NYCT commodity management system, assist with subway car sub-component teardowns and formulation of overhaul kits. The intern will be introduced to the robust industrial environment in which the NYCT Subway cars are maintained and will get to demonstrate their potential to contribute to the future work force of subway car maintenance.
Responsibilities:
- Review and revise maintenance and overhaul manuals of subway car parts.
- Revise figures and drawings of subway car parts.
- Create materials documentation for subway car parts.
- Research parts used on subway cars.
- Review various technical documents on parts used on subway cars.
- Use basic Microsoft Office software to create a database tracking subway parts.
- Work with engineers to provide technical support to maintenance shops to address various issues with subway car parts.
- Basic office support.
Projects:
- Review and revise R179 Overhaul Process Manuals and Work Manuals
- Participate in teardowns for 2028 SMS.
- Help in researching obsolete and alternate parts
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
- The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
- The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
Required Education:
- Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA
- Major(s) Preferred: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Industrial Engineering or Related Field
