Graduate Assistant - The Masters of Education in Higher Educational Leadership (MAHEL)
Job Description:
The Masters of Education in Higher Educational Leadership (MAHEL) program is seeking a motivated graduate level student to join our team and play a valuable role within our program. The GA will provide assistance with researching, planning, promoting, and implementing various components of the Higher Education Leadership program.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning and implementation of outreach events, MAHEL orientations, Alumni career exploration, and related activities
- Assist in the implementation of strategic initiatives that promote the MAHEL program
- Update and maintain the alumni database, MAHEL website, and social media presence
- Research and coordinate experiential learning activities (study abroad, internship opportunities, etc.)
- Develop and maintain partnerships with on-campus departments to provide services and information to MAHEL students and faculty
- Assist with marketing campaigns such as maintaining social media presence
- Assist with assessment reports (such as surveys and focus groups), analyze the findings, and provide a summary of the findings along with recommendations for enhancing the program
- Communicate with students, faculty and staff on campus
- Assist with mentoring and professional development projects for students.
- Support research on equity issues in higher education
- Assist with course design.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience:
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Interest or experience with diversity, equity and inclusion issues
- Basic research and data collection experience
- Successful management of multiple projects and adherence to deadlines
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, Qualtrics
- Some knowledge, experience, or interest in the field higher education (e.g. working at a college)

Assistantship Eligibility and Requirements
To be awarded an assistantship, the following are required:
- Students must have full standing admission status to a specific graduate degree program.
- Students with a limited standing admission status may be considered for an appointment if the conditional requirements can be met within the first semester of the award enrollment period. An assistantship award will be terminated should the conditional requirements not be satisfied.
- Students must be in good academic standing.
- All students with graduate assistantships are expected to maintain a full-time enrollment status at Oakland University during the semester(s) for which they are appointed.
- Graduate Assistants must maintain an overall grade-point average of 3.0 AND show satisfactory progress toward completing degree requirements.
- Students may not hold other employment positions during the term of appointment, either at Oakland or elsewhere, without prior written permission from their adviser and Oakland University Graduate School.
Tuition:
Tuition (eight credits per semester or a total of 16 credits) will be compensated. Any additional credits and class fees, including books, will be the responsibility of the student.
Compensation
The student will earn a stipend for the duration of the assistantship.
