### PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Titan of Life Leadership Internship Program offers a transformative experience for students of all educational levels who are passionate about mental health advocacy and leadership development. Inspired by the remarkable journey of Melvin L. Burks, President and CEO of Hamilton Center, Inc., this internship combines practical leadership training with innovative approaches to mental health education.

Interns will work directly with the Titan of Life initiative to promote Melvin Burks' autobiography while developing their own leadership skills and becoming advocates for mental health awareness in their communities.

### OUR MISSION

To cultivate the next generation of protective leaders who can effectively reduce mental health stigma through authentic storytelling, community engagement, and strategic communication.

### PROGRAM PILLARS

1. **PROTECTIVE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT**
  - Learn directly from Melvin L. Burks' leadership model that emphasizes protection, dignity, and service
  - Develop emotional intelligence and authentic leadership practices
  - Master age-appropriate mental health vocabulary and communication techniques

2. **MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY**
  - Create compelling narratives that normalize mental health discussions
  - Design community projects that reduce stigma across diverse populations
  - Transform personal experiences into powerful tools for social change

3. **STRATEGIC PROMOTION**
  - Develop marketing strategies for the "Titan of Life" autobiography
  - Create engaging content for multiple platforms and audiences
  - Build community connections that amplify mental health awareness

### INTERNSHIP TRACKS

**ACADEMIC TRACK (FOR COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY STUDENTS)**
- Duration: 10-12 weeks (semester-based)
- Time Commitment: 15-20 hours/week
- Credit: Academic credit available through partnering institutions

**COMMUNITY TRACK (FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS & COMMUNITY MEMBERS)**
- Duration: 8 weeks
- Time Commitment: 10-15 hours/week
- Recognition: Certificate of completion and leadership endorsement

**PROFESSIONAL TRACK (FOR WORKING PROFESSIONALS & EDUCATORS)**
- Duration: Flexible (3-6 months)
- Time Commitment: 5-10 hours/week
- Outcome: Professional development certification

### CORE COMPONENTS

**1. LEADERSHIP INCUBATOR PARTICIPATION**
Interns will participate in one of the Titan of Life leadership incubator programs:
- 1-Week Immersion (for Community Track)
- 2-Week Development (for Academic Track)
- 4-Week Transformation (for Professional Track)

**2. MENTORSHIP PROGRAM**
- Regular guidance from mental health professionals and leadership experts
- Peer mentorship opportunities across different educational levels
- Virtual "office hours" with program directors and special guests

**3. COMMUNITY PROJECT**
- Develop and implement a mental health awareness initiative
- Create age-appropriate resources for underserved populations
- Organize virtual or in-person events that promote authentic conversations

**4. AUTOBIOGRAPHY PROMOTION**
- Create innovative promotion strategies for "Titan of Life"
- Develop social media campaigns that highlight key teachings
- Organize focus groups similar to the 200-student model that demonstrated the book's impact

**5. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT**
- Build a personal leadership portfolio
- Create your own mental health narrative
- Develop practical applications for your specific context (school, workplace, community)

### APPLICATION PROCESS

1. **ONLINE APPLICATION**
  - Personal statement reflecting on how Melvin Burks' story connects to your own leadership journey

2. **VIRTUAL INTERVIEW**
  - Discussion of personal connection to mental health advocacy
  - Exploration of leadership experience and goals

3. **PLACEMENT**
  - Assignment to appropriate track based on experience and availability

### ABOUT MELVIN L. BURKS

Melvin L. Burks is the President and CEO of Hamilton Center, Inc., with over four decades of experience in mental and behavioral health. His journey from a child in poverty to a respected leader honored with Indiana's highest service awards provides the foundation for the Titan of Life leadership methodology. In July 2023, Burks received the Circle of Corydon Award, one of Indiana's highest civilian honors, and was recognized with the Distinguished Alumni Award from Indiana State University in September 2024. Throughout his career, he has maintained a parallel commitment to youth development through athletics, serving as a coach since 1987.
