Latin America/Caribbean Archival Processing Intern - Church History (Part-time)

Job Description

Assist the Latin America/Caribbean Team in the Archives and Area Support Division of the Church History Department in collecting, preserving, and sharing Church history throughout the world. We are looking for a motivated, energetic, and organized individual with Spanish or Portuguese language skills to join our team!

This is a paid internship, which is anticipated to last one year (12 months). This position is a part-time (approximately 28 hours per week) hourly, nonexempt position. The candidate must be currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from (within the last 12 months), an undergraduate- or graduate-degree program. Preference will be given to graduates in history, library science, international studies, and related majors.

Intern Will Learn And Be Exposed To

• Archives research, acquisition of historical records, archival arrangement and description, and workflow management, with a heavy emphasis on records processing and cataloging techniques that align with Church History Department standards
• The Church History Department’s worldwide documentation program

Available to work in the Church History Library (not remotely) up to 28 hours per week. There is flexibility in specific scheduling (especially if you are attending school), but work must be accomplished between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

The Intern will be responsible to fulfill the following tasks:

• Process archival records in a variety of formats
• Quality-check and edit materials
• Help in the acquisition process as needed
• Provide research assistance
• Translate documents
• Train missionaries and volunteers
• Assist the full-time Archives and Area Support staff

Intern will work under the direction of Church archivists and historians who will provide training and day-to-day direction

QUALIFICATIONS

• Paid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduation.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Spanish or Portuguese language skills, both written and verbal
• Bachelor’s degree (or senior looking to graduate within 6 months) in history, library science, international studies, anthropology, religious studies, or a related field preferred
• Excellent English and editorial skills
• Leadership and training experience
• High degree of organizational skills, including scheduling and managing multiple projects
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Experience with archival research, oral histories, and a strong interest in international Church History preferred
• Familiarity with Latin American cultures helpful
• Self-motivated and dependable
