Details
- Duration: Summer 2025 semester, starting May 27, 2025, ending August 22, 2025.
- Commitment: 10–20 hours per week. If you are doing this internship for academic credit through your institution, your total and weekly hours may change.
- Location: Remote or Des Moines, IA office.
- Compensation: Unpaid; academic credit may be available through your institution.
- Eligibility: Candidates must be at minimum a Junior in College.
API Product Intern
Overview
The API Product Intern will work closely with the API Product Manager to support, manage, and evolve Vote Smart’s data services. This role is ideal for candidates with a background in data science or social sciences who are interested in politics and product development. Interns may engage with clients, participate in sales and technical meetings, and help design products and datasets that drive our API strategy forward.
Responsibilities
- Join sales and technical client meetings; take detailed notes and support client communication.
- Collaborate with the API Product Manager to develop data-driven products.
- Assist in the creation and design of new datasets, ensuring accuracy and usability.
- Respond to technical client needs via email and virtual meetings.
- Ensure product documentation and technical support materials are accurate and up to date.
Ideal Candidate
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to spontaneously jump on internal meetings and external meetings.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational habits.
- Enthusiasm for using technology to promote access to political information.
- An interest in American politics and civic engagement.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and R.
- Competence with spreadsheets (Google Sheets, Excel).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Familiarity with working with or building APIs.
- Interest in data visualization or UX design for data services.
