HWIL & Real Time Simulation Intern

The Draper Hardware in the Loop Simulation Group is responsible for designing and developing dynamic simulations and infrastructure for rapid assessment, integration, and test of complex systems. Some of our projects focus on the development of software based simulations of cutting edge aerospace systems. Other projects focus on building and utilizing high-fidelity real time simulations of new avionics components, flight computers and Inertial Measurement Units.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

Design, develop, and enhancement engineering solutions for challenging problems. 

Implement, test, perform analysis, and provide documentation support.

Generate and present test reports including plots, tables, evaluation criteria, and conclusions from data collected and analyzed throughout the test process.

Complete assignments designed to develop a practical knowledge of processes, procedures, equipment, facilities, and systems as well as their interrelationships within engineering disciplines.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Program Requirements

Enrolled in an accredited full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program required.

There is flexibility regarding hours and program duration based on applicant’s school schedule and availability.

Skills/Abilities

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent work ethic with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Ability to adapt to ever-changing environments, risks, and vulnerabilities.

Strong computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Additional Job Description:

We are seeking a summer intern with skills applicable to developing software models in MATLAB, Simulink and C++ and executing real time simulations in a Linux environment. Students will learn while participating in a range of activities from vehicle modeling, real time software development, automatic code generation, software application integration, data analysis, to test plan specification and integration. Development will take place in a fast paced team environment with an opportunity to work on a range of projects critical for our nation’s defense.

 

Required Qualifications:    

Student currently working toward a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science

Due to the nature of Draper's work, US citizenship is required

Ability to work and succeed within a process-oriented team

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following skills:

MATLAB and Simulink experience 

At least one semester studying Object Oriented Programming with C++

Familiarity with aerospace systems and related sciences

Interest in the Linux Operating System, installing, administering, modifying the Linux OS.  

Understanding Bash scripting, SSH, and Linux based developer tools

Computer graphics, visualization and/or gaming engine experience

Pay Range: $28.00 - $39.00/hr.
