Data Entry & Education Engagement Summer Intern
Data Entry & Education Engagement Summer Intern
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate for a Data Entry & Education Engagement Summer Intern position for an exciting project.
Dr. Christina Coyle, an expert in travel medicine, is the Principal Investigator (PI) on a grant funded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) entitled “The Global TravEpiNet (GTEN): U.S. Travelers Health Research, Surveillance, Communication, and Outreach Networks.” As part of this grant, we are conducting a retrospective review of malaria cases across multiple Bronx hospital sites between July 2019 and September 2024. This study aims to identify high-risk populations, evaluate current treatment approaches among providers, and uncover gaps in care. With approximately 400 cases under review, this research project is one of the largest of its kind. Its findings could play a key role in advocacy by highlighting both the successes and challenges in malaria care, ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes.
In this role, the Data Entry & Education Engagement Intern will assist with data entry efforts and contribute to the real-world impact of the project by organizing educational sessions and working groups to educate providers on malaria and other diseases affecting immigrant populations in the Bronx. Additionally, this position will support the Clinical Coordinator and Dr. Christina Coyle in the clinic and at community events, aiding in patient education both in and outside the clinical environment.
The Data Entry & Education Engagement Intern would be responsible for the following:
- Thoroughly review malaria cases in Epic and enter data into the REDCap database
- Coordinate case distribution among medical students working on the project
- Develop and help maintain websites that inform physicians of community resources and educational webinars pertaining to caring for immigrant populations
- Oversee working groups and connect participating providers to patients identified through outreach efforts
- Develop and maintain lists of partners for community outreach (community-based organizations, local physicians, etc.)
- Support additional study and clinical efforts as needed
Minimum qualifications include:
- Undergraduate student
- Proficiency in REDCap and Epic preferred
- Strong judgment, initiative, and attention to detail
- Research experience
This is an excellent opportunity for pre-medical students eager to engage in research with meaningful impacts on the Bronx community.
