College Intern, Arts
The City of Santa Clarita is committed to providing a challenging and meaningful work experience for college students. The City offers unique opportunities for students to gain hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. We provide real world work assignments, which provide interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff committed to teamwork and providing superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita. The ideal candidate should have a passion for civic arts administration and an interest in gaining experience in the arts or arts administration, community engagement, public sector work, and advocacy.
SALARY: $19.31 – 24.46/hour (Undergrad Level)
The position is expected to work approximately 20-30 hours per week. The anticipated duration of this internship is from June 2025 to September 2025.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Responds to questions and concerns from the general public, arts organizations, and outside agencies or organizations with art facilities. - Prepares and proofreads a variety of documents, including general correspondence, reports, memos, and draft proposal documents - Conducts research, collects and analyzes data from local art shows - Completes data analysis, prepares and presents reports and recommendations - Establishes positive working relationships with various staff and other agencies and obtains information on assigned projects - Assesses and generates a comprehensive list of arts vendors - Conducts research and develops opportunities for a creative industries directory for Santa Clarita that identifies businesses and people in the creative economy, and lists resources and opportunities. - Gathers information, research, and analyzes potential community venues to identify shared space to support the various needs of the arts community, e.g., rehearsal, storage of props, costumes, and administrative space. A presentation will be given to the Arts Commission - Aids in the planning, programming, and development of the Arts Business Conference - Performs a wide variety of office and administrative support tasks and duties in support of the assigned program
Education and Experience:
If you are a currently enrolled undergraduate college student who resides or attends college in Los Angeles County, studying Arts, Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, Recreation, or a closely related field, and are interested in gaining meaningful hands-on work experience at the local government level, this program may be for you.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- General understanding of governmental organizations and municipal operations - Research techniques, survey methods, data collection, and analysis - Strong social media skills, including proficient use of Instagram and Twitter - Excellent customer service and presentation skills - Flexibility and ability to handle multiple priorities - Excellent oral and written communications - Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with outside agencies, City staff, and the public - Strong computer skills and the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and other computer programs to generate letters, spreadsheets, presentations, and reports - Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and documents weighing up to 25 pounds
